Description
A poster from Louisiana Museum of Modern Art with the motif, Das Auge der Mona Lisa (1967) by German-Swiss artist and surrealist Meret Oppenheim. Several of Oppenheim’s works were part of Louisiana’s major exhibition Fantastic Women in 2020. The piece is printed on extra-heavy, uncoated paper.
In 1932, Meret Oppenheim moved from southern Germany and Switzerland to Paris, where she was invited by Arp and Giacometti to exhibit alongside the Surrealists at the Salon des Surindépendants in 1933. She mingled with the circle of Surrealists and, in 1936, created the famous fur-covered teacup—Object (Le Déjeuner en fourrure)—which became an icon of Surrealist art and was subsequently acquired by MoMA in New York.
