Mamma Andersson - Hypnos

A poster from Louisiana Museum of Modern Art with the motif, Hypnos (2014), by Swedish painter Karin Mamma Andersson, presented by Louisiana in 2021 with the exhibition Humdrum Days. Mamma Andersson is considered one of the most significant painters of her generation, and Louisiana showcased her work extensively in Denmark for the first time with this exhibition. The piece is printed on extra-heavy, uncoated paper.

Mamma Andersson builds her paintings upon a foundation of art historical references, found photographs, films, and historical clippings—often in black and white, which she says gives her greater freedom in choosing colors. Her work represents layers upon layers of painting, images within images, as her pieces unfold into a universe of suggestive and emotionally charged narratives set in expansive landscapes, interiors, and portraits.
